独具地理资源优势
柴达木盆地是我国枸杞多样性发源地之一，主要分布在格尔木一都兰一乌兰一德令哈一线，柴达木枸杞就生长在海拔2700—3300 米的盆地内缘荒漠、半荒漠草原、盐碱地和沙化土地带。
目前，在青海省都兰县五龙沟发现的国内认为扰动最小的天然枸杞群落，面积约3400亩，树龄60年以上的近千株，最老的已有 3000年。
2008年，按照“适度发展枸杞产业”的农牧业产业结构调整思路，采取政策驱动、科技推动、市场拉动、龙头带动、社会联动等措施，不断延伸枸杞产业链条。
2010年， 对照青海省委省政府“东部沙棘、西部枸杞”发展安排，建成格尔木、德令哈、都兰、乌兰、大柴旦五大枸杞规模化种植区，成为中国最大的有机枸杞生产基地。

海西州第一产业增加值为2.72亿元，增长4.5%，高于青海省平均水平0.1个百分点。
全州农村居民人均可支配收入8341元，同比增长7.1%，比上年同期提高0.1个百分点，低于全省平均水平0.6个百分点，高于全国平均水平0.3个百分点，绝对值高于全省平均收入1486元。

在第25届中国·青海绿色发展投资贸易洽谈会上，海西州与6家企业签订枸杞订单超5亿元。
截止2024年7月28日，已销售枸杞鲜果6.85吨，主要销往浙江、广东、四川、北京、江西等地，深受消费者喜爱。
品牌价值稳步提升
2016年11月，在第二届全国农产品地理标志品牌推介会上，柴达木枸杞成为国家农产品地理标志示范样板；
同年12月，原国家质检总局批准对柴达木枸杞实施地理标志产品保护；
2019年11月，柴达木枸杞入选中国农业品牌目录……品牌价值达196.75亿元；
2020年9月，柴达木枸杞作为协定中首批100个中国地理标志产品之一，正式入选欧盟保护地理标志名单，有机枸杞远销18个国家和地区，出口量占全国90%以上。
